PARLETT, Arthur Edgar
Arthur Edgar Parlett was the son of William Bass Parlett, Master Mariner, and Olive Elizabeth Parlett. The family had lived in Lincolnshire, but moved to South Shields around 1882. Arthur attended the High School for just over a year from January 1905, and left at the age of 16. After school he served 2 years with the Northumberland Hussars. By 1911, at the age of 21, he was a clerk with a coal company, but a year later he was on board the Tunisia on his way from Liverpool to Quebec, Canada, where he was described as a "student" and "engineer". On 18-Mar-1915 he signed up with the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Forice, serving with the Eastern Ontario Regiment of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. While serving, he was wounded, and died of his wounds on 19-Feb-1916. He is buried at the Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, about 15km south-west of Ypres, just over the border into France. |
