The school magazine for the school was called The ATOM. It may surprise some to
know that it appears that the first edition of the ATOM dates back to 1885 (at least according
to a later edition), the year that the Boys' High School was opened.
The magazine had articles about the school's achievements and activities through the year,
the results of school competitions, reports on schools societies, plus poetry, prose and
art.
Publication was sometimes irregular - in some years there were two editions published,
in others there were none, and in 1940 a special "co-ed" edition was published
with the Girls' School.
The present-day school has very kindly provided many old ATOMs on loan, going back to 1903.
Many are originals, but some are photocopies and of these, several would be difficult to
read if scanned and uploaded.
All the ATOMs that the school has are shown in the table.
indicates I only have a photocopy
and indicates I have an original but it is in a poor state
(bracket) indicates that there is an edition, but I don't have a
copy
In all these cases, a decent original would be appreciated (even if it just to scan and return)..
Where I don't know otherwise, I've assumed that two editions were
produced in a year but I've used ??? to indicate that it isn't clear
whether or not an issue was produced.
