Alan Wood was the son of Philip Sligh Wood, an iron ore mechant and chemical manufacturer. His brothers, John Ronald and Henry Havelock, also attended the school. Alan was at the High School from 1906 to the end of 1908, when he left to go to Mill Hill School, which his oldest brother, Henry, had just left, and his other brother, John, was to join later in 1909. He left Mill Hill school in July, 1914, and was commissioned almost immediately as a Lieutenant in the Royal Fleet Auxillary, later becoming ADC to the General of the 27th division. Alan served in France and Salonica, and was awarded the Military Cross. He survived the war, but little is known of his life after then. |
