RAMM, Clifford
These details may be those of the same Clifford Ramm who went to Westoe Secondary School, but there is no direct evidence other than a match in the military records on a relatively common or incomplete name. Clifford Ramm is believed to be Clifford Chapman Ramm, son of sailor, John Thomas Ramm, and his wife Margaret. Cliffords father died in 1889, and his mother took a job as school caretaker (although it's not known with which school). She was remarried in 1891 to William Clark, also a school caretaker. Clifford attended Westoe Secondary School, although it is not known when he joined or left. However, by the age of 21 he was a wharfinger's clerk (a "wharfinger" being someone who is responsible for a wharf). He joined the 169th Siege Battery of the Royal Garrison Artillery, and was killed on 25-Apr-1918. He is buried at the Picquigny British Cemetery, about 13km north-west of Amiens. |
