  Welcome to the Guestbook
Feel free to add messages relating to the site and the school. The only rules are: real names only, no personal attacks and no unrelated messages (inappropriate messages may be edited/withdrawn without warning).
It would be appreciated if you gave an email address, where you now live and said when you were at the school, but you don't have to.
Plase note that if you click on an email address below you will need to replace ~DOT~ with . and ~AT~ with @ in your email program. The Guestbook presents these this way to avoid email address harvesters collecting your email addresses from the page. I know it's a pain, but it's very much better than the alternative.

Hello Mike and all the regular (and irregular) readers,
I’d just like to take this opportunity, before we head out for Toronto tomorrow, to wish you all a Happy Holiday, and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year. We’ve already started planning our trip to the UK and perhaps this year’s trip will be uneventful. We’ll be family-tree climbing in Rothbury, Mike, so maybe we can get together to have that long awaited pint.
Best wishes to everyone from a snowy (-21 C windFX) Montreal.

Just received an e-mail from my sister Ella who was born 1923 $ attended the girls High School. When the girls school was evacuated she was in the 6th. form for a few months at the boys HS I don't recall seein' any females at the school. Mind you I'm pushin' 87 & getin' a bit senile that's my excuse.

From Mike T:   Ed - the girls actually came to the boys' school in September 1939 (as far as I can tell, for about a year). They even produced a joint boys'/girls' ATOM.

Hello,
I was recently informed that my late father attended the school in the early 50's. John Henry Pittuck? He unfortunately died in 1994 aged 54 when I was only 12 so I didn't get the chance to share in any 'what I got up to at school' kind of stories! I can imagine he was a bit of a tearaway!! If anyone knew John (who was also known as Harry), has any stories, or even better any pictures, please let me know.
Thank you!

Hi Fred
Sad news about Phil Bainbridge. Although I did not know him personally (he was a few years older) I have a picture of the Marsden crowd, circa your era, which was sent to me by Bill Biggs some years ago. The picture includes; George Jackson, Ray Brown. Bill Christie, Len Travis, Ronnie Coe and Phil Bainbridge, plus two young ladies. All look fit and healthy in their bathing suits. The quality of the picture is not first class, but good enough to copy. So I will copy it and send it to you, that is if you are still at 14 Tunstall Avenue.
Cheers, Neale.

I was sorry to see the death notice in the Shields Gazette of a very old school friend of mine and I am sure that he will be remembered by some of your older readers.
PHILIP BAINBRIDGE, died at the beginning of the month whilst visiting his daughter who lived in Lanzarote.
Phil went to Mortimer Road school from 1946 and then to the High School with a few of us from the same class....Jimmy Smith, Arthur Slaughter, Jimmy Hardy, Derek Moore among them.
He was one of the gang who used to go swimming at Marsden beach and was keen on his swimming. Len Travers, Gordon Auty and Bill Biggs were all members of that illustrious band of stalwarts.
Although Phil was not a contributor to this site I used to update him when I saw him ,at least once a month.
I will miss him

Now then!

As Mike Hannard will have noticed if he has read through earlier entries in the Visitorbook the majority of the contributors were of a certain generation i.e. lots of 40s and 50s (as in years of the 20th century) and some, including our illustrious leader, nudging into later years.

Several of the older boys have lamented that there are not that many reminiscences from those of subsequent years and all have said how much we (the oldies) would love to know what happened next.

So, Mike, London, Australia what did happen next and in between? A response may "encourager les autres" as Dr Skilling may have said. Sorry, the reference to Doc Skilling will be lost on those who we wish to "encourager".

Any support forthcoming?

I just found 6L from 1972. My word, I thought I had avoided all photos since 2nd year but there I am next to Ed Wraith. We all look a glum lot but, really, that was a great year to be alive. My first job from leaving was in London and I was just a baby! And now in Australia.....what happened?

All the best to you who read this, Micky Hannard

Hi Mike
Now that my responsibilities extend to little more than emptying the dishwasher and putting out the garbage, it has taken a prod from Bruce and Michael to shake off my ennui and get me tapping again.
I was listening to a CBC radio interview this morning with Dustin Hoffman, still acting and directing at seventy five. I liked what he said about staying involved as we grow older. "Of course we don't have the staying power which we had as young men but if you are doing something you love, even if it's only at ten percent, don't give up." Good life lesson I'd say.
September remains semi-tropical here in Victoria (not quite Californian)but warm nevertheless. We seem to have a high pressure system permanently parked over BC. It seems like it will never rain again but I know that that will change to "Will it ever stop", once we're into November.
I was encouraged to leave my perch recently and play a round of golf, which I do infrequently and badly, with son David and Grandson Ryan (13). I was astounded when this babe in arms, of only yesterday, launched a drive at least fifty yards farther than his Dad and a furlong longer than my miserable effort. It's occasions like this that make the perch feel more welcoming. But then as Dustin says, 10 percent is better than giving up.
Cheers, Neale.

Hi Mike

Bruce asks where all the regular correspondents are. Just to let you know that we’re still here, grimly hanging onto those perches and waiting to see the youngsters from the 60s, 70s , 80s and 90s do their bit. It’s a long wait…
